Application of BIM and virtual reality (VR) during project construction
To build An Sinh Hospital as a classy high-quality hospital, the Owner, Project Management Consultant and Contractors apply a variety of state-of-the-art construction measures. Characterized by a diversity of dedicated functional rooms, An Sinh Hospital strictly requires a proper arrangement of equipment which involves the decisive role of doctors and medical experts. Therefore, together with Turner as the Management Consultant, Unicons applied a virtual reality (VR) model which allows experts and doctors to experience the design space visualized by BIM model so that they can make decisions on the exact position of the equipment. This practice saves time and costs during construction and ensure the project progress.
The thorough incorporation of BIM is also performed in modelling through construction. Turner and Unicons control this process by using Dalux augmented virtual reality software (VR, AR), which is advantageous for its visualization and friendliness to mobile device users.
APPLICATION OF BIM LOD400 AND CONSTRUCTION IN COORDINATION WITH MORE THAN 30 SUBCONTRACTORS
An Sinh Hospital is the first project that Unicons uses BIM LOD400 (level of development of a BIM model). BIM LOD400 adoption allows a full display of specific information for construction, operation, maintenance, service, etc.
As the Electromechanical General Contractor of An Sinh Hospital, Unicons had to elaborate the whole process from the beginning that enables the effective, convenient and easy construction coordination with more than 30 subcontractors at the project. This poses a great deal of challenge since subcontractors in Vietnam are of diverse qualifications and working styles. Therefore, Unicons held training activities and instruction sessions so that all subcontractors are well informed and work together effectively and conflicts are minimized.

The application of BIM from the beginning helped avoidance of conflicts during construction and electromechanical tasks, quality control, aesthetics enhancement and assurance of project progress. The BIM deployment process for An Sinh Hospital was selected by Turner as one of the exemplary effective BIM deployment processes to be introduced in the online BIM event series hosted by the Standing Agency of BIM Steering Committee (Ministry of Construction).
By taking continually efforts in application and modification of BIM during design and construction, Unicons has further affirmed its position as the leader in M&E design and construction (MEP) market, bringing the Owner projects of high quality, aesthetics and economic efficiency in accelerated progress.
